"Magic beans, apparently."
Stu Blistlenack stared at the aforementioned legumes in his hand with some amount of justified trepidation. On his shoulder, an opossum also stared at the beans, though its eyes were filled with bewilderment.
The reason Stu Blistlenack had a handful of apparently magic beans was due to the fact that he had recently played a game of gin rummy with an old woman who lived in a cottage within a dark forest. He didn't win the game, of course. Because, the elderly lady, with a face so gnarled it might have been carved from rotting wood, was most definitely a witch. Witches were notorious for being sore losers, and would gladly lay out a curse on someone if given a semi-decent reason. It took quite a lot of skill of Stu's part to avoid beating the hag, to say nothing of losing a fair amount of money. However, Stu felt a windfall of several coins to be a preferable option to being the victim of some whopping nasty magi
